The U.S. biodiesel and renewable diesel industries have endured more than their share of tough times, but EPA’s debilitating delays on RFS volumes, an unreliable federal tax credit and low diesel prices have made this past year one of the toughest. Some biodiesel manufacturing facilities have shut their doors as a result while others are moving forward with project development and construction to help define the new age in U.S. biodiesel and renewable diesel production. With EPA’s June 1 deadline to release its 2014-’17 RFS volume proposals for biomass-based diesel fast approaching—and given that the agency indicated it will base 2014 volumes on actual usage, which would be a significant increase from its original proposal—market stability may soon be reintroduced to the industry. Hear from progressive biomass-based diesel project developers on how they have insulated their ventures from the market uncertainty that has characterized the recent climate, what motivates them to keep going, and where innovations in technology and business relations fit into the mix. In addition to providing an overview of their innovative projects, presenters will share lessons they have learned from the existing industry paradigms while contributing new ideas for success to the established community of producers. Combined, these presentations will provide a glimpse into the future of U.S. biodiesel and renewable diesel production.
